What I love most about Solange and her story are the twists and turns she experienced – without losing her zest and flavour for life.
This week's guest on the Power of Why is Solange Zindzi. Solange was born and raised in Amsterdam and has roots in Curaçao (an island in the Caribbean). Since the age of 4, you could find Solange dancing and enjoying the sound of music. At 10, her mother enrolled her into dance classes to learn techniques. This is a story about betting on yourself and making the impossible, possible.
This episode is for you if:
You don’t want to be defined by labels and titles, but are still figuring out what this means to you practically
You want to move to a new city or make a career leap, but you are sitting on the edge
You struggle with living in the grey, but you see its immense value [aka fervently moving towards your dreams and also having the patience to let things flow]
In large part, her dance career involved learning from the best.
Solange travelled internationally to attend workshops by Anthony Burrell in Amsterdam, she partook in Motivation Excellence Week Intensive by Rhapsody James in New York City, Cameron Lee mentorship in Los Angeles and was trained as an aerialist by Decker laDouceur in Toronto at the Toronto School of Circus Arts.
Come 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Solange's international shows were cancelled, so she decided to go home to Curaçao - a place where she knew she would be happy and at peace. In this time, near the sea 🌊, she got to writing. And in 6 weeks, she wrote Solo Jump – a book that explores her lessons learned as someone who 'jumps' and moves towards her wildest dreams.
Solange wrote this book to:
“Inspire and motivate people around the world to believe in their own abilities and desires so they can live their personal best lives”
This was one of my absolutely favourite conversations. Her book is told in a way that pulls you to flip each page curious about what happens next.
